Cindy Press is a visual artist living and working in New York. She was born and raised in Philadelphia where she graduated with a BFA in Fashion Illustration from Moore College Of Art And Design. Cindy started had a successful career as a fashion designer working with artists such as Peter Max best known for his work in the 60’s, she interpreted his paintings into wearable art. Cindy has returned to her art practice after taking time off to raise her two daughters.
“My original goal was to create paintings that are simply striking and beautiful, getting back to my roots of fashion illustration. As I started collecting clippings from fashion magazines and editorials for inspiration I realized I was no longer as concerned with the fashion but what the pose or expression means to me. During the process of reinventing myself I became more interested in celebrating women and their sexuality and how my work can honor it because in almost every other aspect of our daily lives we have to repress it. I go deep down into a woman’s mind and touch on her insecurities. The beauty of that is even if it makes her uncomfortable because it’s too provocative at least I’ve made her think about it.”
Cindy’s work has been included in group exhibitions and is in private collections around the globe. Through gallery representation she has exhibited during Art Basel as well as other art fairs throughout the country. Her clients include Bloomingdales, New York, NY, The four Seasons Hotel, Budapest, Hungary and The Thompson Hotel in Seattle, WA.
